Xero stood in the middle of the vast field that was the Plains. His massive sword strapped securely to his back by a thick black leather strap with a chain wrapped around it. His dark black sunglasses reflecting the piercing sun into the distance. He could feel that there were other presences in the Plains, but he couldn't see them through the glare.
He began to invisibly draw runes in the sky. As he did his hands began to become shrouded in a dark mist. He slammed his enshrouded fists into the ground and a thick black fog rolled across the Plains. Xero relaxed his entired body and fell fluidly into the haze. Here, He thought, I can search the Plains without interruption. His bounty was told to be lingering in this part of the world, preying upon travelers that meandered through without paying heed to his ever threatening presence. There was a high price on his head, and the client came to Xero personally for assistance. Naturally, he couldn't decline the offer. He needed to eat after all.
He stared up from the fog as he darted through it. He could see nothing, but he felt confident his target would show his or herself as soon as they realized how powerful Xero let himself out to be.

It had been nearly a month since her master had sent her out into the world. Lost in this wilderness Blaze and kept pushing her forward. Tired already from the days walking Sage whined as Blaze nagged her forward along the plains. Giving a light growl to his slowing friend.
"Alright, I am going." She said in reply not to happy with all the traveling they had seemed to be doing. Glancing forward again it was only a few seconds a dark fog washed over them. Sage froze in place not sure what to make of it.
Blaze however could feel another close. Lowering is body close to the ground his ears pushed back against his head ready to take action should there be a need for it. Sage took a few slow steps back to just behind Blaze lowering her tone. "What is it Blaze?" She asked knowing there would be no answer as she drew her cloak tightly around her body slightly scared of what this fog could mean.

Xero took off his dark sunglasses exposing his closed eyes. He put his a finger over each eye and chanted quietly, "Ahgreshen zhares teiyrudkil." He opened his eyes which now resembled small spheric microcosms. This spell allowed him to see perfectly through the thick darkness. He watched the two strangers enter the fog and look around. He couldn't decide how much of a threat they posed. He watched the one look about and the other stand waiting.
He pulled out a small knife and carved a rune in his hand. The blood always made the spells more powerful. He channeled a little bit of the mist into this injury and slammed his palm down on the ground, " Phyaerudes!" He shouted igniting the mist beginning from where he started and travelling toward the travelers. If they were no threat, they will die. If they are a threat, they may still die. Xero put a hand on the giant blade strapped to his back just in case he must rely on its power.

Blaze could sense the danger but he couldn't see it. One thing about being a wolf his body knew even when his eyes didn't. Sage on the other hand was becoming more and more frightened as the silence continued.
Glancing around she didn't much care for any of this. It was all awful this situation. The danger seemed to grow because Blaze jumped up seeing the fog disappearing into flames before them. To fast to run from it Sage let out a yelp.
She was nearly too late but managed to bring a barrier up in time. As the attack collide with Sage's barrier a bright light flashed through the plains and died once the threat was over.

Xero watched the two evade his attack. Who are these people? Why are they here? He began to wonder if they were even here for him. They were obviously not his hunt. The hit would have vanquished the flames upon their conjuring. He tightened his fingers with his open palm facing up. The tips of his fingers began to glow a pale green and he whipped his hand in a horizontal motion. Blades of wind shot from his fingers and pushed away the fog.
"Travelers. I extend my apologies." He stood straight up and put his sunglasses back on, "I was protecting my camp. You understand, I hope? Please, allow me to make it up to you by making you a meal."
He watched the one in the air fall to the ground and the other watching behind the barrier.
"I am no threat to you, I promise. Let me show you." Xero pulled out a handful of herbs and extended his hand toward the group, "A burn remedy from my home. Works wonders." He smiled slightly to try and ease the tension he had created.

Sage had closed her eyes the barrier just a reaction to being attacked. Lowering her hands she opened her eyes just to see Blaze hop in font of her yet again. Growling at the person who had addressed them now.
Blaze was always like that though far to over protective of Sage.
Sage glanced in the distance to the man barley able to see him too well. Her hand coming to Blaze's back an indication to back down as the wolf relaxed slightly.
"No worries" Sage yelled back with an uplifting tone. "We are not injured."
"Come on Blaze might as well make the most of this... He seems nice." Sage spoke softer to her friend now. Her ignorant response normal. She could find no evil in anything and Blaze just snuffed in reply. Sage not even waiting for him to respond as she walked toward the voice now.

Xero led the travelers to his post and opened a can.
"This stuff isn't too great, but it reminds me of home." He held his hand out with the open can pointed toward the two. "Try it, you may even like it."
With his other hand, he unwound the chain from the strap that held his sword. He flipped a buckle and it crashed to the ground.
"Oops. You tend to forget how heavy artifacts such as that actually are when you carry it around as much as I do." He noted his extended arm, "Please, eat."

Blaze sat close to Sage's side still not sure about this person. With a bright smile however Sage was warming up to the person. Taking the can she smiled sweetly.
"Thank you... We have been lost for some time now i can't remember the last time we ate anything." She said examine the can not to sure of what it was. This was new to her and like everything new she had to study it closely.
Blaze however never took his eyes off of their host. Even as he lowered his head and laid down.
After some time at looking the item over Sage had to sniff it then bravely tried what the can contained. Thinking about just how it tasted as it rolled around in her mouth.

"It's an interesting mix of flavors." Xero said noting her expression, "Not necessarily great ones, though."
Xero sat down and began eating his own can full of the food. After a little while of doing nothing more than eating, he looked upa bit," So," He swallowed, "What brings you here?"

What the hell was that?!
L awoke from his nap with a start, his back against a tree. He rubbed his head, a nervous feeling washing over him. What powerful burst of energy...? He stood, determined to investigate. Shaking off his sleepiness as he walked, he was unsure of what he was geting himself into, but he knew it was his duty to make sure nothing bad was happening.
It was a few seconds of walking before a fog blew past him, seeming as though it came from nowhere. And just as it came, it continued past him, rushing out of sight. L sped up his pace to reach where it came from. It wasn't long before a small encampment became visible just past the horizon. L stopped where he was, and closed his eyes.
A small area of grass a few feet away from Xero grew up quickly, forming into the shape of a person. It took shape, and L stood before the group, watching them through his glasses. "Excuse me for my interruption and invasion, but I recently noticed an odd disturbance near here," he said. "I was hoping perhaps you knew anything of it?" His voice was quiet and polite, with an educated english accent. His body seemed frail and small beneath his simple, clean clothing. Pale skin contrasted short, bright green hair topped an aging face.
