The library of WingSpire was extensive and impressive. The bulding itself was rather small, compare to other libraries, but filled to the brim with old and new tomes alike, written in a thousand different languages. The main room was where most books slept, with various side rooms for people to study in peace. This is where Yume was.
She sat in the room, a pile of books on the table in front of her. She had one open, flipping through it and taking notes as she did so. It was an old tome and hadn't been open in decades. The pages gave off the musty scent of age that most old books carried with them. It was written in a long dead language, but that meant nothing to the woman. She knew the language well, long before it was dead.
The contents of the book were welcoming and intriguing. As she flipped through, she wrote each of the cryptic messages she found within. It was obvious it held a secret and she was bound to find it.
Two days she'd been at this library. Breaking only when it was necessary to do so. She'd left when the library closed, only to return the very next morning the minute it opened. It had come to the point where the librarian and tenders had known her by name. She didn't talk to them often, but was courteous when needed. They were nice enough to let her use this room and make sure no one bothered her while she did it.
She paused, placing her quill back in the inkwell she had and looked at the paper she wrote on. There was a pattern in the cryptic messages, and it was staring to become apparent to her. She grabbed her quill and started a fresh line. The letters were important... and placed in such a peculiar way... and they spelled out something.
“Klaric'inde.”
The name was familiar and she quickly grabbed a different book, flipping manically through the pages. There. The name was again. Klaric'inde was a castle once, nestled deep within what was now called the Wetlands. She closed the book, smiling to herself under her mask. She had a destination finally, a clue to what she desperately sought after.]

Loen was looking for a book.
Not just any book, mind. This was a book on magical theory and foundations. This was was a book that would help him unlock several other avenues he'd been persuing. A rarefied volume, a priceless treasure.
This was a book the library didn't hold at all.
The mage rubbed his eyes and stood, eying the papers spread across the table balefully. Last known locations, maps. Codexs for translation, histories, lists of stocks and lists of spoils. The staff were giving him the evil eye for pulling so much material, but here he was, looking for more.
At the shelves, pale eyes scanned over the titles, stamped spines plain and gilded, and skipped right past the spot he should have found the title he needed. No, that was too far. He stopped, eyes going back. An empty space. Wonderful. A short and irritated sigh pushed out of him as he went to find out where the book had gotten to.
____
A man shoved his way through the doorway, into Yume's peace and quiet; all the protests of library staff and tenders be damned. While his face was largely calm, it certainly had an irritable cast that only lessened as his eyes landed on a book. One of Yume's books.
"Ah. There it is."

She was rolling up the parchment she'd been writing on when she heard the door to her private study room open. Frequently the tenders of the library would visit and offer her tea or something to eat in the common room. She knew the reason behind making her move when they did so. They wanted to make sure that she didn't ruin any of the priceless tomes while they couldn't see her.
So she turned to address what she assumed was one of the assistants, only to see a man she didn't recognize standing there. She stared at him and at his statement followed his gaze to the pile of books she had sitting at her desk.
The woman stood, motioning to the desk, “I'm finished with these. If you need one, you'll have no complaints from me.” Her voice was quiet and despite this and the fact it was slightly muffled by the mask over her face there was a certain authoritarian tone to it.
She pulled the rolled up parchment under her cloak and moved away from the table. She watched the man as she did so. He had an aura of magic about him. A mage perhaps? If he was one, she shouldn't be surprised if he sensed her own supernatural magical aura. She shouldn't dawdle.
“You're also welcome to the room,” she said as she walked toward the door, leaving the books she'd taken there behind her... including the tome that spoke of the ruins of a castle once inhabited by and ancient and powerful race on the open page. The ruins that were in the Wetlands of the very land the two of them were in.
Yume certainly didn't dawdle. She stopped to thank the librarian and attendants before heading out the door. She had a destination, of course, and travel took time.

If he hadn't been so focused, Loen might been curious about the crawling sensation under his skin, the one that he generally recognized an indicator - a prelude to power. As it was, he paid Yume little mind beyond a short nod before he picked up the book, opening it. For a long moment, he looked down at the book, attempting to decipher the characters.
He frowned. Some of the markings were similar enough to languages he could decipher to give him pause, but the arrangements, the patterns - entirely different and entirely alien to him. The volume was old, but something made him think the language it contained was older still. He sighed irritably. Translating was likely to be a painstaking process, but at least the proper compendium should be already located for him. His eyes roved over the table, searching for a key or a lexicon.
Nothing. What?
Without really pausing to think, he turned and brushed through the doorway, picking up speed as he jogged towards the front of the library, after the woman he'd interrupted in the study. Spotting her near the doors, he called out.
"Wait!"

The cloaked woman had stopped to pause outside the doors to the library, taking time to take in the sunlight of day. It was near noon, so the sun was high above. She always loved the sunlight, despite her tendency to travel during the secrecy of night.
She was just taking the first step down from the doors of the library and into the busy street when she heard the shout from behind her. At once her heart leaped into her throat in a moment of panic. Could one of them have found her? Maybe she'd been too careless.
Despite her initial reaction to flee, she turned to see who shouted at her, her outer demeanor remaining as calm as possible. Confusion passed over her face for a moment as she noted the young man who'd entered her private study before and she turned to face him.
“Can I help you?”

Loen noted the confusion and sighed inwardly. There was a very good chance he was going to look like an idiot here in a moment. The mage pulled up short, taking the last few steps to Yume slowly as he flipped open the book. Selecting a page at random, he stopped, tilting the foreign symbols and indecipherable phrases towards her for inspection.
"You were looking at this volume, I believe. I can't read it," he admitted grudgingly. The book he held was an old one, on settlements in the area now called the Wetlands long before it ever had the name.
(( Short. Sorreh! ))

Yume looked at the book. Ah, so that was it. She sighed, partially in relief; partially because this child knowing she could read this language was a possible liability. Her eyes moved to him, to inspect him a little closer. He studied magic, that was certain... but what could his use for this volume possibly be?
She raised an eyebrow, feigning interest, “I was... and I can read that language. It’s very, very old... and not many know it.” She honestly sounded like a teacher belittling a poor student.
“I could read it for you, but it is a very large book. It would take time. Is there something in particular you’re looking for? If not, then if you insist I translate it for you, then you’ll have to come with me... I’m in a bit of a hurry.”
The woman didn’t really want him tagging along, and was hoping her condescending tone would turn him away from the idea. Not just that, travelling her was a danger to him as much a hindrance to her.

Loenn's eyebrows shot up a moment before he wrested his expression under control. All he'd wanted was direction to the translation key or lexicon she'd used, but here the woman was offering to translate herself. Curious. Perhaps she didn't want to share; some were jealous of their hard-won knowledge. Hell, maybe she was after what he was. The coincidence would be ridiculous.
From her tone she thought him a moron - fair enough given the circumstances - and wanted him to go away. Yet, she had offered. If the knowledge was hard enough to win that she wouldn't provide it offhand... He nodded abruptly, snapping the book shut and motioning for her to lead.
"I'll keep up," he replied, undaunted. Here goes nothing.

The woman let out a long sigh. Her plan backfired and the boy actually chose to come with her. This would slow her progress down immensely. She’d have to walk, and be extra careful... especially if he caught wind of her own inherent magic.
“As you wish,” she replied, turning and walking down the steps that lead up to the library.
The streets were busy, as they normally were at midday, but Yume walked through them and the people with ease. Granted, quite a few of them made effort to stay out of the cloaked woman’s way as she walked.
She didn’t talk as they walked, her leading him towards the southern exit of the city. It was half an hour before she stopped and turned to him, “We’re going to the Wetlands. I suggest you take this time to get whatever supplies you may need. I’ll be by the southern gate, you have two hours.”
With that said she turned and started walking again.
