Sirion wiped the sweat from his brow. It was hot in here, he thought. No doubt because of the forge. Sirion raised the hammer in his hand and brought it down upon the heated metal, sparks flying everywhere. He repeated the process many a time, until it was time for the next stage.
After he was done forging, he walked outside, leaving the blacksmith's apron inside. It was a nice day outside, cool compared to inside. A man in chain mail armor walked up to him.
"The captain sends his thanks. He's not telling us what the weapons are for, but I guess we need them. And you're one of the only people making them. How far along are we?" the guard inquired.
"I finished my seventeenth blade today, not counting the armor and other weapons. The other smiths should be far along as well," Sirion replied.
"Good. We should all be outfitted soon then. You should go talk to the captain. I think he knows something he's not telling us, and you might be able to get it out of him."
"No, I'm still working. I just needed a little break is all. Now go ahead and report back to your commander, tell him all's good here. Go on."
"Yessir. Thanks again," the soldier responded, immediately after turning and going into a jog back to the guard barracks.
Sirion looked upon the area. A simple farming village, most people with no military experience, including the guards. What could go on here, Sirion wondered? There wasn't much to gain from this area, so no one in their right mind would attack, unless it was a completely spontaneous raid. But if it was a surprise, the captain of the guard wouldn't know about it, would he? Sirion sighed. It didn't matter. He was assigned a task, and he meant to see it through. He turned back around and got to work once more.
This threat would reveal itself soon enough anyways. Right now he would do what he was told, and wait for whatever would come to come.

"Oh why did I have to steel that bag?" Ski groaned as she walked along. The area was clear of everything, it was a slight refile to see the smoke in the distance. It could only mean either a camp or a village was up ahead.
As Ski stopped her stomach was right on Que. Looking down she just laughed.
"Well I guess that leaves that decision clear." She laughed having often talked to herself. It was really the only person she had to trust at this point.
Making her way long being more careful now with who saw her. Ski was on the outer rims of the village. Having caught part of her conversation a guard type person was having with another man. Hiding among the outer building and grassy area. This seemed like such a peaceful village, why were there so many blacksmiths? she wandered now as the guard ran off.
Thinking a little more on this Ski had gone to move into the village to find out more when she had tripped landing her foot in a bucket of water. The ordeal having taken her complete by surprise as she fell to the ground with a big thud.

Sirion stopped at the noise. Sounded like someone fell. He had hoped the guards weren't that clumsy, or else whatever was about to happen would end quite quickly.
He stepped outside, looking. A boy seemed to have stepped in a bucket of water. He noticed something then. He wasn't from this village. Who could he be, then? Who would come here at this time? He was surprised he got in, the way the guards were roaming the town for intruders. He walked over to her, stepping in front of him so he could see him.
"You should be more careful," he said, offering a hand. "You may want to come with me. The guard captain is paranoid lately, and a stranger at this time would be all the reason he'd need to have you... well, he'd call it 'interrogated.'"
He looked at him, waiting for her response and analyzing him at the same time. Upon closer inspection, he noticed his eyes. Rather, her. She seemed like she was disguising herself, yet she didn't seem like a spy. But she was hiding something... He'd find out soon enough, he thought. First things first, they needed to get out of sight.

Ski froze as she heard the mans voice. Standing straight knowing now she had been spotted. Giving him a big cheesy grin a she blushed. Skilled thief yes, but only half the time. Kicking the bucket from her foot she noticed the way the man was studding her.
Puffing her chest out much like a pride driven young man would she tried to speak slightly deeper then a female. But as she went to respond in some kind of silly tough way she couldn't believe how friendly he was being and dropped the slight act. Not saying anything it would be wise the last thing she need was someone else poking into her private life.
Giving a simple nodded to the man about getting out of sight she was ready to follow him. The small dirt covered Ski waited to follow him. She would take kindness where ever it was given, at least in these days.

He lead her into the blacksmith. It was the closest place available. He closed the door behind them and let the forge die down for a second. It was hot enough as it was.
"Sorry for that. Now then... You know, it probably wouldn't be wise to wear all that clothing in here. I don't know if you're trying to hide something, nor do I care, but you'll burn to death with all that on." He re-lit the forge and got back to work. "So, tell me, what's a girl like you doing out in the middle of nowhere? You don't have to answer, but I would like to know," he said, starting work on a new piece of metal.
He wasn't one for smalltalk, but he did want to know why she was here at least. If she was part of the reason he was making the weapons, he thought he had a right to know. He looked back, further trying to figure her out. She was young, or so her looks suggested. He didn't know why she wore all that clothing, but he figured she was trying to hide something. Perhaps an object hidden under her coat, or something on her body. He couldn't tell from a glance. Her eyes were what gave her away, though. They looked happy, yet sad at the same time. This girl was a puzzle to him, so hard to figure out, so he turned and resumed work.

Ski gave a nervous laugh as he commented about her being a girl. She was going to try and play it off as if she wasn't. However it was pointless besides it was awful hot in there. If she were to keep on all those clothes she would die. And to take off even a little would give her away.
Ski spotted a chair near the man and hopped up on it. Pulling he bandanna off her head. Her long hair falling out.
"I guess my disuse is not fooling to many out this way that much." She said hanging her head as she took off her coat. Her baggy t shirt and pants covered her partly well in being a female.
"Well nothing much." She said with a happy laugh. "The last town I stopped at didn't seem to have to much going for them. Just a bunch of arguing and nasty people. So I figured it was best to move on. This village just happened to be along the way to well... just a long the way." She said slight uneasy about the idea of having no where to go or be.
"Why does it look like you are all about to go to war? I get a peaceful aura about this place.. Not to mention it doesn't look like your guards are trained enough for such a thing." Ski made a face as if she shouldn't have said anything. Her training had put her even at a young age far beyond these men.

So she's not involved in this, then... That's a relief, Sirion though. He didn't want to have to kill one so young as her.
"To tell the truth, I know nothing of why the smiths are so hard at work, or why civilians are being pulled into guard duty... The captain of the guard seems to know something. But that's all I know, and that's all I need to know," Sirion stated. "And no, your disguise was fine, it was your eyes that gave you away, you se-"
Sirion was cut off by a guard entering the room.
"Sir, the... Who is she?"
Sirion was quick on his toes, as always.
"She's from the village. She wanted to help, so I figured I'd take her on as an apprentice. Now, what were you about to say, soldier?"
"Ah, yes... The captain ordered me to get you, he wanted to talk to you about... something..."
The guard couldn't take his eyes off Ski.
"Soldier, get back to your captain and tell him I'll be there soon, before I beat you with this hammer. Now go."
The guard was startled by this.
"Ah, ye-yes sir. Sorry to have bothered you. Good day, milady, I'll be off now!" he said nervously, backing away.
After the boy was gone, Sirion shut the door.
"I think I've established a good cover identity for you, so feel free to leave at any time. But it would seem we're about to find out something about what's going on. Feel free to come if you'd like," he said, putting his work aside. He stepped out of the door and started towards the guard barracks.

Ski was startled by it all she didn't even more fast enough to put her cover back on. Growling at the fact now everyone knew her secret it was staying to get annoying. Well at least she could hide out here a little longer.
Her father's hired hands she left two villages back there is no possible way they could have tracked her this far already.
Her curiosity now peeked Ski wasn't about to leave with her new cover. nor was she going to stay behind even if pushed out of the place she would find a way in. She wanted to know what was going on with such a peaceful place.
Hopping down from the chair she followed right behind the man. realizing only now they hadn't even introduced each other. She hoped this wouldn't be a problem later on.

Sirion pushed open the large doors leading to a hallway of stone. It wasn't much to look at, but it served its purpose. Sirion walked through the halls, the end was marked by bigger doors, more ornately crafted than the entry doors. Sirion pushed them open, wondering if the girl had bother to follow. He walked in the room to be greeted by a man wearing plate armor, sporting a jeweled eyepatch and a large beard. He looked older than a soldier should be, but regardless, he earned the respect of the men around here, so he didn't question. The man told Sirion to take a seat, so he did.
The man looked Sirion over. "My friend, you were meant to be a soldier, not a blacksmith. You know that, yes?" the man inquired.
Sirion nodded, and said nothing more.
"Hm. Nevertheless, you've done us a great service, without so much as a question. Not many men would do that. So, I believe I owe you an explanation. You see, our scouts have stumbled onto some disturbing.... Something's wrong." The captain finished, saying no more. Sirion felt it too. Something was amiss in the air.
"... They're here... No, this is too soon!" the captain shouted to himself.
Men screamed outside. It sounded like a slaughter. Sirion hoped that girl made it, but right now, he had to see what was happening. He wasn't equipped for combat right now, but if he could get back to the smith, he could get his armor and blade and be ready. Sirion started out, but the captain stopped him.
"Boy, do you know what's out there!? You won't be able to beat them with your fists, damn it!"
"With all due respect, I didn't plan to, sir."
"... Vampires. Our scouts found a lair containing a good sized battalion. I fear they're after... No, that's not for you to know. Not when I'm unsure of your loyalties. Go, do what you must, just come back alive."
Sirion nodded. More screaming, the sound outside was erupting into a full-fledged battle. Sirion ran out into the hallway, hoping the girl was there and safe...

Ski really didn't want to go in so staying just outside within hearing range as good enough for her. Her eyes fixed on the small crack in the door she wasn't even paying attention to what was going on around her.
Listening to what she could hear of the conversation she was slightly distracted by the screams around her. Glancing up she had just managed to miss a claw coming at her. Ducking down it hit the wooden door as Ski rolled away.
It was complete chaos outside at this point. Still there was no time to just sit there and watch it all. Whatever this was it wasn't pretty. Dodging another attack Ski wasn't to pleased to see how the guards were doing. This was not even a battle more of a slaughter.
